New Knoxville residents share first impressions of the Scruffy City Hear what new Knoxville residents have to say about Knoxville. Tennessee has become an even more popular place to live, and Knox County is one of the most desirable destinations in the state. From July 1, 2021, to July 1, 2022, the state grew by almost 83,000 people, according to a study by the University of Tennessee at Knoxville Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research. That's a 1.2% increase. That increase was mostly from people moving here.
